This INC Evangelical Mission is proving to be quite a challenge for Manilenyos and Manilenyas everywhere.
I hitched with my dad to work, and at 10 minutes before 7am, there were already buses parked all the way to the DFA! The INC event is in Quirino Grandstand with the affair officially starting at 5pm. Imagine how much more packed it will be within the day. Kids, avoid Manila at all costs today.
I'm toying with the idea of submitting everything that needs to be submitted within the next few hours (i.e. disk with my report and 3 resolutions) and then call it a day by lunchtime. I'm thinking of taking the train to Baclaran, because Taft Avenue and Roxas Boulevard are scheduled to become parking lots within the day.
Makati is the business capital, while Manila gets stuck with all the religious mega rallies. Yay.

There used to be a pregnant beggar outside of the CA with a toddler in tow. Now she's no longer pregnant but she still has the kid with her AND a baby. Apparently, she's now selling the baby and has more or less cleaned herself up, probably to attract potential baby buyers (clean mother=clean baby).
This morning the beggar was nowhere in sight, but there was a man where she used to stand, and he was also cradling a baby. The man was decently dressed and seemed able-bodied. He was talking with another man and I heard him say something like: "Mas mabuti na nandito to kesa sa bahay, madami pang binabantayan don".
I gave them no thought until I later found out that that man was the beggar's wife and that was the same baby she was peddling!
I'll have to admit that I've been tempted to ask about the baby, because I know that that baby will have a difficult life in front of her. But that would be trafficking and I don't fancy committing a crime anytime in the future. Besides, I have a feeling that whoever ends up with that baby won't be hearing the last from her parents.
Can't the DSWD just swoop in and take the baby away? Declare the baby as abandoned, after all her parents are putting her up for sale, and have her adopted?
I can't stop thinking about the poor baby and how random and cruel life can be.

Today's great adventure was going from Sucat to Makati for less than 40p. That involved a jeepney ride, 2 trains and walking in Baclaran (not for the faint hearted).
Went home with a bundle of Wacoal underwear (for my very first sponsored post), as well as a shirt and wall clock bought using Rustan's GCs. Will post a photo of my new wall clock tomorrow, it's all sorts of gorgeous :)

G has an appointment tomorrow in Greenhills with his chiropractor and instead of going with him, I'm opting to stay home and tidy up the house. Is it so wrong that I'm excited to putter around the house?!
Kids, this is what's known as domestic mania.
For February, the nesting projects include buying a dresser and I have something like this in mind:
A tall and lean dresser in white enamel paint. I want different handles though and I don't care much for the trim on top or the legs, for this will create a dead spot that will only attract dust bunnies.
I still haven't found anything similar to that dresser in the photo since all the dressers that we've seen are either: (a) brown; (b) not tall enough; (c) too expensive or (d) all of the above.
It looks like we'll have to have a dresser made and I'm crossing my fingers that it won't be that expensive. My SIL had a double deck made for Joey and she said they only paid 3.5k for it. Hopefully, my dream dresser will also be around that range.
Another project is to replace the bathroom mirror, which is cheap-ass mirror with plastic chuva left behind by the student boarders, with a rectangular mirror with a gold and white frame. It should be similar to this once it's done:
The plan is to make it as bongga and pretentious as that second hand bag store along Aguirre Ave. That's the peg.

There's just something so grown-up about paying one's real estate tax. And since G's going back to the city hall to pay the 2012 real estate tax (he only paid the back taxes a few days ago), that makes us doubly grown-up.
When I still lived with my parents, I thought I was all that wielding my credit card and going to work as a lawyer. But apparently you don't really feel grown-up until you're faced with the bill for a new set of tires, deposit for a parking space, life insurance etc. And with all these endless bills to pay, I'm just about ready to say "Screw this shit!" and crawl back to my parents' house where Neneng gladly irons my clothes :p
Seriously though, I wouldn't trade our maison pour deux for all the newly pressed shirts in the world. And the point to this post is I have to check with my parents, particularly my mom, if they kept up with real estate tax payments. I have a feeling that the answer will be in the negative...

Friend A is coming back to the Philippines for a vacation and her mother expects me to organize a dinner for her. I usually wouldn't mind except that I also put together another friend's welcome back dinner last week, upon the prodding of Friend A's mother (we belong to the same church group) and now I'm expected to do this too.
As has been expected from me for more than a decade now.
I don't know why I'm the designated responsible person this group. Guess I have doormat written all over my forehead.
Anyway, the mother sent me a text message Monday night asking me to organize the dinner, I didn't respond so she send me the same text message last night. And in a rare showing of defiance, I replied with:
"I'll try po tita because I'll be busy in the next few weeks"
I might as well just start wearing a doormat from now on.

In my draft I wrote:
"X thereafter raised the following assignment of errors for the consideration of this Court:"
But the promulgated Decision reads:
"X in his belief, raised the following assignment of errors for the consideration of this Court:"
Naman.
Happy Valentine's Day na lang!!!

After brunch at Guernica's we went back to the condo for dessert and to continue the gabbing. We had Death by Tablea from Chocolat and strawberries and cream.
I was amazed at how easy it was to make the whipped cream. Granted that it took me 30 minutes of non-stop whisking to make it reach that whipped consistency, still it was a no-brainer.
Thanks Liway and Kaka for dropping by!

Sa uulitin :)

Ok, confession time.
We're having our very first visitors* tomorrow and I've been slightly excited over the prospect. Scratch that. I'm very excited!
The plan is to meet up for brunch in Santana Grove and then we'll proceed to the condo for dessert. I've already bought a small Death by Tablea chocolate cake from Chocolat and I've also picked up some ripe strawberries from one of the vendors outside the CA. So here's what I still need to do:
1. Make whipped cream (apparently it's easy to make whipped cream, just beat full cream and then add confectioner's sugar. No wonder it's called "whipped cream". Oh...now I get it!).
2. Give the bathroom a quick wash. I cleaned it last week so there's no need to go on full-on cleaning mode yet.
3. Sweep and tidy up the bedroom because we'll be doing our dessert munching and yakking on the bed because we don't have a living room or a sofa in the condo:p
4. Tidy up the house, although I doubt I can do anything about the messy vibe because we just have way too much stuff for a 30sqm space.
I also bought new cutlery and napkins. I'm looking at tutorials on how to jazz up napkins (like sewing on a strip of colored cloth), but I don't think I'll have the time to do that just yet. Maybe later.
Whee! I can't wait for tomorrow's brunch with Liway and Kaka :)

*Family members who dropped by to look at the condo or pick up something are obviously not counted as visitors.
