Forget Venus Raj, Veejay Floresca for Ms. Universe!!!

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Dear PR People/ Marketing Mavens/ Tom and Janes etc.,

You may not know it, but I work full time.

It may not be obvious, but I don't get paid for maintaining Kikay Exchange.

I may not say it, but I don't owe you anything for whatever it is you send my way.

I try to acknowledge everything I receive with a review or a mention, ideally with a full review because I'm nice that way. But in the event that the said review does not come out as fast as you would like it to, please do not bug me/ make parinig/ follow-up or whatever it is you might like to call it. It is fantastically irritating.

All the best,
PMS-ing Jill
Dear God,

I need more hours in a day.

Love,
Jill

It's official, my 30 day blogging challenge is a big fail :(

Oh well.

Day 14

More than toys and outings (because we had little of the former and practically none of the latter), what I really remember and treasure most about my childhood are the people I grew up with.

I swear, just as long as we're huddled around a table full of food, the stories will continue coming and the laughter, non-stop.

I'll take that over a Tickle Me Elmo doll any single day:p

P.S.
Happy birthday Tatay!

Day 12

"All my life, I have seen the Lord constantly lead and provide even in the darkest times of my family. I refuse to believe that even though my very heart feels like it has been torn out of me, that the Lord is not in control. And it would be totally out of character if Jesus isn't giving David a big warm hug right now."

Day 11

The past few weeks have been very interesting in our office, ever since random calls were routed to our office.

It usually goes like this:

X: (calls CA trunkline) Hello, who can I ask to get the registry receipt number of yzyz case? (or some other inquiry)
female voice: Please look for Nash/Agnes/Rod. I will connect you now.
(call transferred to our office)
X: Hello, can I talk to Nash/Agnes/Rod?
Nash/Agnes/Rod: Speaking
X: What's the registry receipt number in case yzyz?
Nash/Agnes/Rod: Huh? I'm sorry sir but this is the Office of _____. We don't have information on registry receipts here. How did you get our number?
X: I called the trunkline and a woman told me to talk to Nash/Agnes/Rod.

Repeat the above scenario for about half a dozen times during the day. Annoying right?

So they finally called up the operator and confronted her, and wouldn't you know it, she claims she NEVER gave out our number, much less the full names of the staff in our office.

Now, the staff is convinced that there's something otherworldly going on and there are talks of bringing in this person who is known to have a third eye, just so that she can inspect the office.

Just another day in the judiciary:p

Day 10

God save us from sore losers and people with a misplaced sense of entitlement.

If you must know, I'm referring to the same person(s).

Tsk-tsk.

Day 9

Q: What's black, red and buff(ed) all over?

A: My nails!

Thanks to Nail-a-holics for the start of the week pampering :)

Day 8

IMG_0788

I highly doubt that I'll ever set foot in another club in the near future, but I now know why clubs hold such an allure for the clubbers out there.

Stressful week in the office + a chance to dress up + friends + booze + dancing = instant fun!

IMG_0794

And apparently, it's also a good place to meet people, but with all the noise and smoke, I highly doubt you'll find yourself connecting with anyone (eeep! spoken like a true fogey:p)

Entrance was at Php500 with some complementary drinks thrown in, actually not a bad price considering the place.

IMG_0793

It was fun looking at how dressed up everyone was, the club is definitely the place to get all glammed and dolled up.

But, like most fogeys, G and I left a good hour or two before the party really started. Oh well, gotta rest them aching bones:p

IMG_0785

Thanks for the great night out Sieg, and see you soon!

Day 7

We're going clubbing tonight and it promises to be interesting.

Interesting because the last time I went clubbing was when it was still called disco, as in: "Tara! Suotin mo ang step-in mo para spooting ka pag nag-disco tayo!"

But more than that, tonight will be interesting because of some introductions to be made :)

Day 6

Something's brewing among the bus lines in the Sta. Rosa area.

A few weeks ago, the Jac (or Jam?) bus I rode from Buendia to Sta. Rosa only charged Php40, a Php17 discount from the usual Php57. But the weird thing was on the ticket, it was still punched as Php57. Ok, maybe it's the driver's birthday. The following day, prices were back to normal.

Then a few days ago, I rode on another Jac/Jam bus on the way home and the price was Php40 again, and the conductor kept on muttering "Kasi naman, ang dudupang ng kalaban natin" whenever someone asked him about the sudden dive in prices. Strangely enough, the ticket was still punched at Php57.

Today, I rode the BBLT(?) bus and the ticket price to Sta Rosa was (drumroll please) Php35! And of course, the ticket was punched at Php57. What's up with that?

I've heard about cutthroat competition, but this is just ridiculous! I sure hope the drivers/conductors aren't made to suffer for this management decision (assuming that it is a management decision).

Day 5

I woke up feeling none too chipper today, to put it mildly, so decided to skip work and spend the day at home.

After two naps, paracetamol and specially made tinolang manok from G, I'm definitely feeling better now.

IMG_0774

Everyone should be so lucky to have a husband who cooks for them and fusses over them :)

I remember all the mother-related drama months before our wedding and I'm so happy that I put my foot down and didn't give in to all the wheedling and whining.

We're in this for the long haul.

Day 4

I'm not feeling too well. And the un-holidaying of August 23 isn't helping either.

Harumph.

Goodnight everyone!

Day 3

My Tita Nen and her family are currently in the Philippines for a vacation. I wasn't able to see them when they dropped by my parents' house for a quick stopover before heading off to Bacolod, so I called up Tita Nen this afternoon.

Me: Hi Tita Nen! Kamusta ang bakasyon?
Tita Nen: Hi Jill! Masaya! Enjoy kaming lahat!
Me: Kamusta si Kristine?
Tita Nen: She's fine! She was looking for you when we got here, she was like: Where's Jill?

And that last sentence was said in the same way I talk about my 4 year old niece.

FYI, this is my cousin Kristine.

img_3627

Pretty right? And obviously not a 4 year old:p

This just bolsters my theory that we will always be babies to our parents/relatives.

Another case in point, we were in Cebu and my aunt, also my mom's sister, was driving. We passed by their old village so I said something like: "Hey, didn't you use to live there?" and Tita Baby, in a voice filled with amazement, was like: "Hala! Ang galing mo naman! Naalala mo pa yon!"

Ummm...I was already in college when they lived there:p

No matter how big / successful / notorious / renowned etc you might get, you will always be that teeny baby in their eyes. And that's just the way it is.

Day 2

Excerpts from an email I received today:

I'm writing you because I would like to propose a collaboration. We have been following your blog for awhile now and we really love your personal style. Your image is very much in line with that of our target consumers. We would like to offer you a PhP2,000 shopping spree at ****, in exchange for 2 - 3 outfit posts on your blog.

Here's a photo of the type of clothes they offer in their online store

DSC0320-181

Definitely reflective of my personal style...NOT!

And if they see how I "style" (and I use that word very, very loosely) myself on a daily basis, they might just gag at what they wrote:p

It's actually funny how I get hit with all sorts of proposals, requests and not so subtle ego stroking just so that I'll feature a product/item/service/whatnot on my blog.

Now let me tell you a little secret, I'm easy to please. As in I don't expect to get paid or get anything in return for a feature. Most of the time, a PR and loads of pictures will do. That's it. No need to try and be my BFF. Promise :)

Day 1

I have never been a weekend warrior because weekends for me are a time to veg out, stay in and regroup.

Today, G and I stayed put and puttered around the blue house because the sky looked like it was on the verge of throwing a tantrum and would unleash torrents of rain at any second.

He finally got around to changing the much abused and flying-kicked doorknob, and I now carry my set of keys too (to prevent a part three of the doorknob incident).

IMG_0763

We hit the grocery a few hours ago and he's currently in the kitchen cooking a tomato based stew which should last us the whole week.

I cleaned the bathroom using white vinegar and baking soda, so the bathroom smells quite funky, in the kinilaw and chicharon sort of way.

So from doorknobs, zombies, war games, bathrooms, grocery shopping and this and that, I would say that this has been a very satisfying Sunday.

Bring it on Monday!

Saturday, August 07, 2010

I've been following Mariel Chua's Ny Minute Now 30 Day Blog Challenge and I've been mulling over doing a similar challenge myself..

So I will mull no more and just jump into it.

A few rules for myself:

1. No mentally "lining up posts" to write about, like what I do in Kikay Exchange.

2. No ante dating of posts.

3. Pictures without text will not count.

Wish me luck!

Friday, August 06, 2010

I used to get annoyed at all the spam masquerading as legit comments in Kikay Exchange. But now that G taught me how to deal with them, I actually look forward to spam now.

So here's what happens, every time someone leaves spam, I edit the link and put a "z". Thus, "http://superflatiron.com" becomes "http://zuperflatiron.com"

And I'm giggling uncontrollably while I'm doing this:p

It's great fun I tell you!

Thursday, August 05, 2010

Melo: Maddie, put your name here so that you'll be a princess.
Maddie: Ok! (signs her name)

40290_10150244094760704_795165703_13981685_7116523_n

Now to make a contract for Julia, something that says "I promise to be a nun cardiologist" or something along those lines:p

Dear Mean Girls,

Please don't grow up so fast :(

Mean Girls

I have seriously neglected this blog :(

Random updates:

1) A truck slammed into the Laguna Technopark fence about 2 weeks ago and it's still there as I type this. Maybe the owner can't afford to have the truck towed? Or the Technopark people are holding the truck until the fence is repaired?

2) The Blockies came over last Saturday for a housewarming, and to make matters even more exciting, G got the wrong set of keys and so had to literally kick the doorknob in just so that we could all go in and enjoy the potato and egg salad G made earlier that day.

3) Before the housewarming, we trekked up to Tagaytay to pig out at LZM (the place to be!). I had chicharon bulaklak after more than 10 years! It was gooooddd....sigh. See you again in ten years :(

4) I want to bring my family over to Nuvali for a picnic of some sort, maybe for Drago or Tatay's birthdays, and so they could also stop by the house to see it. I hope the weather lets up a bit, it's not fun to go picnicking when you're all drenched.

5) My boss is in the JBC's shortlist for the SC vacancy. Keep those fingers crossed!

6) G is cooking tinolang manok now, perfect for the rainy weather. Yum.

7) I owe the Blockies a picture of the fabulous wall clock they gave us as a housewarming present. Next post, promise.
