I'm quickly settling in my new office, thanks to my very friendly and warm office mates.
Atmosphere-wise, it's just so different in my new work place than in my old company (which rhymes with Rebu Kacific). For one thing, we can continue talking even if the boss is inside the office, which is a virtual no-no in the old office. And that's all I have to say about that.
Anyway, the biggest challenge was the commute to work. For the first few days, G would drive me to the Balibago bus terminal and it would take a good 45 minutes or so to travel 5 kilometers. This was because we would leave at 7am, and so would have to contend with dozens of shuttle buses picking up employees of Laguna technopark, school buses and mommies/daddies dropping of their kids to school and other forms of humanity also rushing to work.
The bus ride itself to Manila from Sta. Rosa would take about an hour, only a few minutes less than the trip to the bus station. But by then, the train would be packed and I would have to wiggle myself among the other ladies on their way to work. I would get off at my stop a good 2.5 hours after I left the house.
But this Friday, after Ge told G about a Buendia bus that waits in Paseo, we left the house insanely early to catch the 6am bus. The bus left Paseo at around 6:15 and by 7am I was waiting for a train. And for the first time in 2 weeks, I was actually able to sit inside the car! In fact, the train that stopped at the Buendia/ Gil Puyat station was EMPTY. Woohoo!
I was in the office by 7:30am and promptly left at 4pm. I love government service :)
The hours are great and the work is non-toxic, but it's really dismaying how new employees can only receive their salaries 1.5 months after their appointments. I turned in my requirements last Friday and will get my appointment after 3 business days, so that's Wednesday or Friday (Thursday is a holiday in Manila). That means, I'll be working pro-bono until I get my appointment. And even after I get my appointment, there's still the long wait before I receive my payslip.
But while the government takes its sweet time, the bills and other expenses will still come like clockwork, so July will be a very challenging month for G and I. SIGH.
So to all those who owe us money *cough*Ogilvy*cough*, MAGBAYAD NA KAYO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
That's all. Good night.
