Happy Thoughts
After the carnage known as my Credit finals and the upcoming slaughter known as CivPro finals this Friday, I'm in dire need of some happy thoughts. So here's some, courtesy of the beast known as my nephew. Enjoy!
I was reading the newspaper in the living room, quietly enjoying the lazy and languid afternoon, when I suddenly heard a little boy cry out in pain. I was alarmed to see my nephew run inside the house, gasping for breath while outside, the crying continued.
Mick: I didn't do it!
Jill: (saying nothing. just staring pointedly at him)
M: But Alonzo always makes me cry!
J: (still says nothing, but slowly shakes her head)
M: Remember yesterday? He got my toys and ran away with them?!
J: (unfolds the newspaper and starts reading. ignores his various protests of innocence)
M: Fine. I'll go say sorry to him (rushes out of the house again while screaming "Alonzo!!! I'm sorry!!!")
Postscript
Thirty minutes later, I was once again alarmed to hear the maid shouting: "Mick-Mick!!! Bumaba kayo diyan!!!
Apparently, Alonzo and Mick-Mick had strapped on their roller blades and were just about ready to jump off from the top of the Crosswind.
All's well that ends well :)

Conspiracy
A conspiracy is afoot!
A conspiracy led by a hopeful mother and fueled by fervent prayers.
Every week, I'm amused to find out about the army she's gathered around her.
Personally, I really wouldn't mind :)
But it takes two to tango and, unless a miracle happens (or someone miraculously grows some balls overnight), I'm afraid our music will run out.
Confused?
Good.
So am I.
But slightly amused nonetheless.
Mothers. You just gotta love them :)

Suffering
I'm not sure if it's an allergic reaction from the insect repellant lotion which I slathered on top of my regular lotion or maybe the mosquitos are just extra fierce these days, but my legs are now officially a speckled mess!
I remember when we were kids, the supposed cure for nasty insect bites or jellyfish stings was to pour candle wax on the affected area. It really did the trick because you'll definitely no longer feel the itch because of the burning sensation which will soon take it's place! That cure is as effective as using a hammer to drive in a thumbtack. Sure it will work, but at what cost? I wonder who thought of that "cure" in the first place? May there be a special hell for people like him/her.
In the middle of typing out my Loc Gov paper (which is practically finished BTW :) I had to constantly remind myself to lay off the legs (that admonition also holds true for the SO, in case you're wondering)!
Note to self: scratch today, peklat tomorrow. So stop.

Because
I'm trying very hard not to sulk right now.
Trying.
Oooops. Didn't work.
I'm seriously sulking now.
Stupid friends with their own stupid lives who can't go out with me on the one stupid night I can go out.
Sulking.
See if I care.
*******************
Stupid sulkiness aside, I received word from my cousin Grace that I got "promoted" from being a secondary sponsor to being her maid of honor. Hooray for Grace! :)
I wonder what part exactly the groom's family will play in the ceremony, because from what I've heard, my mom and dad together with all her sisters and their respective spouses will be the principal sponsors. So that makes 8 from our side. Then Francis is the best man while the Galon boys will be the groom's men. That makes it 12. Then Krissy, Chiki and Kristine will be the bride's maids (15) and then Tessa will be a secondary sponsor (veil I think). Giving the bride's side a grand total of 16, actually 17 including myself.
I guess the caterers will come from the groom's side.
Here are some of our pictures from Bohol. I just realized now that that was her last vacation as a single lady...sniff! The next time, there'll already be a pesky husband in tow. If there will be a next time, because the buzz is that Dave (the soon to be hubby) is whisking Grace away to Davao right after the wedding. Oh well, I've always wanted to visit Davao :)

Since then, I had made several contacts to His Country,s Embassy in order to locate any of my clients extended relatives, which had also been unsuccessful.

A Tribute

Congratulations to this year's graduating batch, particularly my brother Melo (sniff! They grow up so fast!).
The world beckons. Do with it as you please.
P.S.
My brother Drago commented that after Melo graduates, there won't be a Sabitsana presence in Zobel for the first time in fifteen years. An era has indeed ended :)
I wonder if my dad will still join in next year's Father and Son camping? Can he still participate even without a son in tow? Tito Rolly?

Pageant News
My cousin informed me last night that one of our distant relatives (her father and my mother are 5th or 6th degree cousins, as per the succession chart) was a contestant in this year's Binibining Pilipinas competition.
I've never been personally interested in beauty contests, not really because of feministic views but just because of the plain fact that they bore the crap out of me. However, this year was different because "cousin" Melanie was a contestant.
I diligently caught the opening number up to the awarding of the special prizes but not without dozing off in between the swimsuit and evening gown portions, and then I'd try to stay awake if only to see how Melanie was doing. But the pageant's curse still held true and when I woke up several hours later, someone had turned off the tv and I had no idea if she won.
A quick internet search revealed that she won as 2nd runner up! Yey!
Although I really don't know where and how to extend my congratulations because, we're so not close that if I were to bump into her, I probably wouldn't even recognize her and vice versa :)
Still, the blood relations are there. So now I can with all honesty say that I have beauty queen connections (albeit of the 2nd runner-up kind).

Best of the Best
There are recitations and then there are recitations. Miss Reeza Singson's recitation this morning for our Local Government class definitely belongs to the latter. If there was a Hall of Fame for recitations, hers would surely be ranked there.
Prof. Reyes: So what are some other views on the ARMM (Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao)? Miss Singson?
Reeza: I agree with Ms. Nakan. I believe that the Muslims have never really felt like they were a part of this country because historically, they've always been relegated to the margins. And I think that the Catholic Church is foremost to be blamed for this feeling of otherness. They just can't keep their grubby fingers away.
However, I have another reason for not agreeing with the secessionist movement. Just imagine how the Philippines will look like if you remove Mindanao from the map. It would look awkward and ugly. The Philippine map as it currently is looks so nice and sexy! It's like a woman lounging on the sand (and then proceeds to strike a pose). If you remove the butt part, it won't be sexy anymore.
But my serious suggestion is to gather all the splinter groups and then throw them in some far-away place like Jolo. Then, we bomb that place. So what if some innocent civilians get killed in the process? We can consider them as collateral damage. Take one for the team.
I love law school :)

Wish List
I need a massage, a vacation and some good---sleep (although another kind of "good" would also be nice :).
In an effort to make this summer less wasteful than my previous, okay ALL, of my summers, I had grand plans of submitting resumes for available summer internships. Unfortunately, the tribe has spoken and it has decreed that I'll be attending my cousin Francis' graduation from medical school in Cebu on April 21. So there goes my grand visions of a productive summer. I'm so sad. :)
Francis doesn't know it yet, but I intend to tag along to Boracay with him and his classmates. Again, he also has no idea that we'll be going to Malapascua (north of Cebu) right after Boracay.
Being as afflicted with wanderlust as I am, I'm positive he wouldn't mind :)
Another good reason to go to Cebu would be to help out in the preparations for Grace's June 21 (or 22?) wedding. Of course "helping out" really means "make sure that I get a nice dress for playing secondary sponsor".
This year will be punctuated by weddings and births. Wow! Life just can't and won't be stopped, unless you're in law school of course.
The next two weeks will be toxic, to say the least. However, I do have the promise of the next two months to keep me sane.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Magic Words
Dadalhin kita sa aming bahay
Di tayo mag-aaway
Aalis tayo sa tunay na mundo
-Jopay by Mayonnaise-
And then I wake up and get on with life. My life to be more precise.
But I still find myself wishing.
Over and over again.

Apparently, the recent deaths of some schoolchildren from Bohol was a sign from God to stop the Government's "Ligtas Buntis" (safe pregnancy) program, Bohol Bishop Christian Noel asseverates. How the good Bishop came up with that conclusion is beyond me. I guess only heaven knows.

Busy as a Bee
There was a time when I needed to be busy.
After that, I just wanted to be busy.
Now that I actually am busy, I just want to sleep.
Go figure.

Calm
This morning at church, I felt a sudden rush of peace. It couldn't have been the homily because, as always, I wasn't listening. Perhaps it was God's way of making his presence known? Perhaps. Maybe it was the strong wind which caused havoc with my hair but which was still a welcome respite from the humidity. Or it could have been all of the above or nothing at all. All I know is that, for the first time in months, I felt so calm and serene that I began to seriously wonder why I even go into Drama Queen mode.
Or maybe it's the calm before the storm? I hope not.

My sister and I watched F.Sionil Jose's Mass at the CCP today. She went because it was a requirement for a class and I went because I would willingly dance like a monkey in exchange for free theater tickets. Although this time, I only had to drive her to the CCP so I'll save the monkey moves for some other time.
Anyway, I've read one of the novels from Jose's Rosales Saga so I was fairly familiar with the characters and the theme. The biggest surprise for me was Yul Servo. Apparently, he's not just eye candy, he also has serious talent. Of course, I couldn't let a photo op pass by so I begged my friend Liway to take our picture with her camera phone (now I know what I'll be getting myself for my birthday). Here you go :)

Congratulations to Juan Paolo Colet for topping the annual Philippine Collegian editorial exam! Please give me this opportunity to bask in my five seconds of fame by allowing me to say: Friend ko yan!
Congrats again Pope!

Midweek Blues
School has been more of a major pain than usual. I've had one too many "Legally Blonde" moments that it's not funny anymore. As I told my friend today, "I feel like Reese Witherspoon without the blonde hair, big boobs and occasional flashes of brilliance!" I seriously, seriously need to put on my nerdy cap. So if I neglect this site for the next few weeks, you know where to find me, Nerdville. Sigh.
I checked out my calendar for this month and it's as action-packed as the Olympics, problem is, it's an Academics Olympics. Go Team Jill Go!
On the lighter side of things, I installed a tracker section at the bottom of the page and it registers who have been visiting my site. The usual suspects are there (the people on my links page) and sometimes I get Google results for Sabitski Point or jillsabs (could I possibly have a stalker? Yikes!) and some Friendster results as well (sorry, but I don't have an account). And then there are those times when I do a double take at the search queries like today's Yahoo! Search Results for pic of children in kamasutra positions. For shame! I merely snickered when a search of "xxx Philippine Star" brought the pervert, I mean person, to my page but to search for pic of children in kamasutra positions is just despicable. Again, shame on you!
P.S.
For some reason or another, my computer can't open haloscan links so I've been unable to post messages on some of my favorite blogs. So ROSA if you happen to read this, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!:) You have the same birthday as Dr. Seuss. That's reason enough to celebrate in my book :)
P.P.S
This is a little belated but Mike Tan (together with Ryza Cenon) won as the Ultimate Starstruck survivors! Yey! So that concludes my Starstruck phase and I'm now switching my attention to American Idol. They're cutting out the second batch of people tomorrow. Can't wait :)
