Idol!
I can't believe I only discovered his blog today! Mr. de Quiros is definitely my favorite Filipino writer of all time. For my thesis in undergrad (I took up BA Comparative Literature), I wanted to write about his articles. However, my proposal was shot down because though the pundits still debate up to the present on what exactly is literature and what may be called literature, they seem to be one in declaring that editorials are not literature. Even those written by people such as Conrado de Quiros. Of course, given that literature is fluid and dynamic in nature, this may no longer be true and that the academe now considers editorials alongside prose and poetry. Let's just cross our fingers.I have always been wary of people who proclaim themselves to be a writer as opposed to someone who merely writes. Because for me, a writer does not only string along pretty words, he brings forth new ideas, he clarifies things, he stirs emotions, he makes you feel. In my opinion, Mr. de Quiros is all that. So if you think that you are up to snuff with him, then, by all means, feel free to call yourself a writer.
Dear Sir,
If you will just allow me, I would gladly shine your shoes and scrub your bathroom clean. I kid you not.
